ASIAN PERSPECTIVE

Program:
Jinsoo Kim – In the frost at dawn for string trio (2024)

Longing fills me with frost in the autumn dawn. The song of longing that I longed for all night has turned white and is covered with frost. The river flows quietly and the cold wind still blows coolly on my face, but a warm memory still remains in my heart.

Hyojoo Kim – Fanciful Musings on Play for string quartet (2012/2024)

Looking back on my childhood, I recall spending countless hours outdoors with friends. I aim to evoke the spirit and energy of those cherished moments, drawing inspiration form the playing I frequently enjoyed- Hide and Seek, Jumping on Spot and Sledding.

Shinhye Lee – Magnetic field for violin and cello (2024)

I tried to express the space formed by magnetic force in the sound of violin and violoncello. The two magnetic poles of the magnet, the N pole and the S pole, were set in each instrument to express the direction of the magnetic force line and the magnetic field, and the action of repulsive force and attraction was to be musically realized.

Jaekyung Lim – Samulnori for string quartet (2024)

‘Samulnori’ is a traditional Korean percussion performance. This Samulnori consists of four percussion instruments that represent thunder, rain, clouds, and wind: The four types of drums/metal instruments, each with different timbres, symbolize different characters and come together to form an ensemble. Similarly, this piece focuses on the dispersion, convergence, and re-dispersion of four different rhythms.

Jisoon Choi – Echoes of a Cacophonic Mind for cello solo (2024)

In a storm, the strong tree may break, while the flexible grass bends with the wind. Adapting is often wiser than rigidly holding one’s stance. When facing uncontrollable circumstances, don’t chastise yourself for appearing diminished. Gaining often requires losing, so cultivate the courage to accept with grace. We are transient beings, contemplating our origins and destinations in the flow of existence.
