reConvert

(ex)tension by Fabrizio di Salvo and reConvert

Performers:

Roberto Maqueda & Lorenzo Colombo – percussion, electronics, performance

reConvert was born as a natural extension of the percussion re- pertoire of the last seventy years, to become a seal of iden- tity that rejects generic defini- tions and bets on a continuous work between different artists in which the questioning of the dogmas of the academy is in the foreground. With difficulties in defining the facet of the percussionist of our time, due to the evolution that the “instrument” has undergo- ne in itself, reConvert raises an aesthetic questioning without complexes, and that does not feed on the natural limits and definitions of terms. Halfway between percussion and electro- nics, the new projects that reConvert faces could well be named with different adjectives, without any of them being able to define them completely and fully.

Neo Classics – Alvin Lucier

Performers:

Krzysztof Arszyn Topolski, NeoQuartet

Curator:

Antoni Michnik

This musical event inspired by the oeuvre of Alvin Lucier will start in Kolonia Artystów with Krzysztof ‘Arszyn’ Topolski performing “Shelter” (1967). In this composition the performer equipped with various types of microphones amplifies the vibrations of sounds coming from the outside. Subsequently, the audience will be led out of the concert venue into city ambience accompaniedby conceptual sounds of Lucier’s “Chambers” (1968) performed by workshop’s ensemble. After ensemble’s setup, its participants will perform a reinterpretation/answer to the composition”Quasimodo the Great Lover” (1970), which was inspired by communication between whales. The last composition performed back in the concert venue of Kolonia Artystów will be Gdańsk version of “(Hartford) Memory Space” (1970) performed by NeoQuartet. In this composition musicians are instrumentally recalling the soundscape of their neighborhoods (in this case: Dolne Miasto, Wrzeszcz, Brzeźno, and Strzyża).
