GDANSK 23–26.10.2025

NEO ARTE Synthesizer of Arts is an international festival presenting the most interesting trends in contemporary music and art.

MUSIC/VIDEO/PERFORMANCE

In the contemporary landscape, the edges between different creative arts are getting more and more figurative. Composers write pieces for video-art and visual artists create sound installations. It is getting harder to differentiate, yet connections and finding common grounds becomes easy. We are acting a bit like radar – trying to identify these changes – a bit like sonar – navigating the unexplored areas. Like a Synthesizer of Arts – creating new qualities.

NeoArte – Synthesizer of Arts festival exists to inspire, support creativity. Its idea is rooted in the artistic synthesis. To works as a platform connecting artists from various cultural backgrounds and realms of art by creating influential environment, a chance for new connections and interdisciplinary effects.

NeoArte – Synthesizer of Arts Festival has been organized every year in Gdansk, Poland since 2012. Starting from 2023, the NeoArte festival also has its foreign editions. It also organizes its foreign editions (2023 – Oslo, 2024 – Reykjavik). Its initiator is NeoQuartet – Polish string quartet from Gdansk, the prizewinner of prestigious Pomeranian Artistic Award 2019 and one of the most prominent ensembles in Polish contemporary (and not only!) music.
NeoArte Association is the organizer and producer of the festival.

Sponsors of the festival: City of Gdańsk, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, National Institute of Music and Dance, Association of Authors ZAIKS, STOART, NDI S.A., National Recovery Plan, European Union

4 DAYS OF CONCERTS, PERFORMANCES AND WORKSHOPS

During the four days of events, the audience will be able to participate in twelve multidisciplinary concerts and performances. Composition students will have the opportunity to take part in composition workshops conducted by Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir and in reading sessions conducted by NeoQuartet. Children will be able to participate in workshops introducing the fascinating world of contemporary art.

COMPOSER IN RESIDENCE, CO-CREATION

The patron of this year’s edition will be an outstanding personality in the world of contemporary composition – the Icelandic composer Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir. In her works, the artist integrates sound and other phenomena into an indivisible whole – creating variable, breathing, living structures through experimental performance practices and notation. Almost each concert is planned as a multidisciplinary performance, during most of them the audience will be part of the artistic process

SYNTHESIS, ELECTRONICS, VIDEO, JOHN CAGE

Among the performers we will see both leading foreign artists (Nordic Voices, KlangLab Ensemble, Morphosis Duo, Roberto Maqueda, Marko Ciciliani. SLATUR), and the most outstanding Polish groups and soloists (Flow Unit, Martyna Zakrzewska, Simultaneo, Katarzyna Podpora, Iza Smelczyńska).

During a special concert dedicated to the work of John Cage, we will present him as an artist who not only redefines the boundaries of music, but also opens listeners to the experience of silence, chance, and the world of sounds that surrounds us.

The festival hosts, the NeoQuartet ensemble, will perform several times, presenting the latest multimedia installations by Marko Ciciliani and Martyna Kosecka and performing a number of world premieres of works by composers from Iceland, Poland, Hungary and Finland.
We will hear dozens of compositions written by composers from all over the world, and seven of them will have their premiere at the festival. NeoArte – Art Synthesizer will once again combine what is impossible to combine in contemporary art and expand its boundaries.
